best NOS tube suppliers?

Post by Joe Shelby »

I'm not even sure this will apply to me, as I
am not "bucks up," and unless you've been hiding out on Jupiter or Saturn, you will know what these old bottles can bring $/wise
in a rapidly fading market.
Still, I'm curious. 135W Fender Twin, sends lots o' voltage to the power tubes and having something that won't require frequent
retubing/re-biasing (plus sounding better than most of what is out there, is attractive).
I respect that some may not want to reveal their sources for their own good reasons.
Still, I ask, say you want a quartet of RCA
Blackplates--how much and where? JAN-Philips
12AX7's? Dare I say Telefunken???

Look up KCA NOS Tubes on the web. Call Mike Kropotkin and tell him what you are looking for. He's really a nice guy and will tell you what you need to know.

I've been buying tubes from him for a couple of years and have always been happy.

Good luck on those Black Plates...

Lord Valve is good. It's best to call him rather than wait to get on the mailing list.

I gave up on NOS tubes, too many problems with microphonics. For a 135 watt Twin I only use JJ/Telsa, they can take the voltage.

If Ken says it, it's gotta be true! I've been using nothing but JJ's for over 2 years now, without a single failure. And there's a LOT of fake NOS tubes out there, too.
[This message was edited by Stephen Gambrell on 13 April 2006 at 01:56 PM.]
