Putting new tolex on an Evans FET 500 amp
Has anyone ever recovered their amp with new tolex ? If so I would love to see some before and after pics.Iam thinking of recovering mine with a tan color tolex and brown grill cloth to match my steel.I guess a regular upholsterer could do this kind of work ? Does anyone have any advice for me before I embark on this adventure.

I have used DAP/Welwood contact cement, non-flammable for years. Comes ion a green and black can.
Water bourne, easy cleanup. Allows you to adjust the Tolex a bit, too! No bubbling problems as with spreay adhesives and rubber cement!
The manufacturers use hot animal glue. This requires a Potdevin machine (lots of bucks). I bought one for a friend's shop in Portland several years ago. Best coverings we ever did on amps! Same machine Fender uses and others. My friend uses this machine to cover all the pack seats Fender now sells!
Prior to the machine, Pat used a crock pot to melt the glue and a brush for application. The result were good, but the Potdevin machine did it perfect.
Greg Hopkins, at Vintage Amp Restoration (St Louis) uses the same machine for Victoria amps and ones he re-covers for customers.

Hi Wade, if you get any replies, can you contact me?? I got an Evans fet 500 LV recently, an old one 1985 and the logo and one corner cap was missing. Bill Stroud was so kind as to send a new logo to me here in England, but I'd like an original corner cap. I know I can get caps here, but I'm trying to keep it as original....hopefully

Check www.partsexpress.com they have some cabinet hardware, including corners. Some music stores carry them, too. I saw a bunch of Peavey hardware at a large Peavey dealer in Tampa (I realize Tampa won't help you but another Peavey dealer that carries their replacement hardware is another possibility).
