hooking up profex

I recently saw somewhere on the forum, but unable to find it, someone talking about hooking up a profex to a 400 using the front panel high and low inputs.I normally use the power amp in input.If plugged into the front panel does this mean that the profex would only be used for effects eg delay/reverb and no eq ,with eq being set from the 400's front panel?.If this is the case what benefit would there be tonewise if any?

Hi Malcolm,
I'm not sure but I think some of the guys that use the front imput only use their profex for effects. If you use the front imput with the normal profex settings then you are going from a pre amp to an amp. I would imagine this would be noisier than running the profex in the back of the amp. I'm sure somebody on here will have all the answers.

The ProFex II,being a processer/pre-amp itself,would mean that you're going from a pre-amp,INTO a pre-amp,into a power amp,thereby defeating the whole purpose of the ProFex. My advice,(which some would say ain't worth a whole heluva lot) would be to go into the back of the amp,("power amp in") by-passing the pre-amp in the main amp itself. This way,all the tone settings are controlled by the ProFex. (does that make any sense??

Thanks guys, the article I saw more or less said that the idea was to give the full two channel effect,rather than just getting one channel of effects.I just wondered if it made any real difference to the sound.(assuming it uses only effects and not eq).If not I would think it is a waste of a profex, and you would probably be just as well to use a stomp box (DD3 etc)into the amp, or effect loop.

Smiley, that's what I was trying to say but I'm still jet lagged after being at the Dallas show and without you there to keep us in order it all got a bit out of hand !!!!
