Session 400 and 1501

Post by Willie Crisel »

pluged my pushpull into my session 400 head, changed from a 1502 to a 1501,i like the 1501 better, it's brighter than the 1502,the carter with the 10-1 also sounds better, i have another speaker that's not marked it has the ridges on the cone,so i'm guessing it's also a 1501, been through 13 guitars and 6 amps,i think i reached a point where i haved matched the guitars to the amp, unless i change my mind next month. also my hands are better, so maybe i should have kept all the guitars i had,

If the cone has ridges and no markings it is most likely a 1502.

Thanks, they both sound good, also i believe the session 400 and the ltd are the same amp, but one is a 75 and i think the other is an early eighties, am i right when i say the 75 is discrete, and the eighties has some ICs, without any mods how would this effect the tone? cause i can't tell much difference, the session might be a little sweeter, or it could be my ears playing tricks again,,,PHYCO- acoustics,

The LTD 400 and Session 400 are the same chassis! They do not have IC chips! The later Session 400 LTD (Limited) used IC chips.

The best thing for the old Session and LTD 400 amps is a fresh set of filter caps. I have changed many, seen the difference in the supply power on my scope and also heard it with my own ears.

A step above that is the Brad Sarno kit. I am working with Brad on putting kits together in the near future. I will install them only. We hope to post a complete shopping list on his Session 400 web page for those who want to do it themselves. It will take a lot of work on my part to get this on a spread-sheet. It is a work in progress now. I do not see it finished until after the Dallas Show. The kit will contain right at 30 capacitors to change out.

See Brad's website on the Session 400, a wealth info and hard work on his part:
