New Fender Amp - 250 watts - 7 lbs!

I don't like the recycled name - Jazzmaster, but it 's very interesting for portability. http://12fret.com/new/fender_jazzmaster_ultralight_amp_pg.html

This is the first I've heard of it.

Walter Woods out in Calif. has been making an amp like this for about 25 years or so. It's about time a major company did it.
What is the price???

The amp head is 7 lbs....so I wonder what the speaker cabinet weighs?
Also, the Jensen neo
speakers supposedly handle only 100 watts.
The other question is at what "load" is the amp
rated at 250 watts? Is it at a 2 ohm load?
I think the Jensens only come in 8 ohms.
The head seems to be Fender's answer to that
Crate Powerblock 150 watt head that's about 4
lbs. (with no FX).

Looks to me like they want to give Acoustic Image a run for their money. They will have to go some to do that, I love my Acoustic Image amp. I think Sam Marshall was playing guitar through one of these at the Mesa show last month.

We have one in stock. We've been testing it out and it sounds pretty good. It will be in our booth at the Dallas Show for you to try out.

We also tried the Benedetto Jazz Amp at Mesa. It's a slightly different version minus the second channnel and comes a matching sunburst finished speaker cabinet (higher price).

The speaker cabinet weighs 17 lbs. It's 2 ohm, not many amps can handle that, but I guess if you hook up two cabinets in series you'll be fine. Read more here: http://www.zzounds.com/item--FEN2277700000

Hooking up 2 speakers is not possible (without modifications) due to the connector used between the head and the cabinet.

You could run a parallel cable from one speaker cab to another, if the cab has two input jacks. I have a pair of 12" 4 ohm cabinets (with Black Widows) that I built with a Speakon and a 1/4" input both so I can run whatever cables I need to, and I can parallel the cabinets to get 2 ohms with my Acoustic Image amp. The AI amp has two speaker jacks.

This is pretty exciting.
A 7 lb 250W amp, with a 17 lb 12" speaker cab!
I love this century.

I thought my 27 lb Evans AE100 was light.
I usually use it with a 12" Black Widow in a seperate cabinet. That setup is 150W.

The new Fender also has a bulit in DSP. I'll be interested to hear how good it sounds.

I forget how things work in the solid state realm. Would this amp mind going into a 4 ohm cab? 8 ohm?

Jon,
I would imagine that each time you double the ohm's, you cut the power down .....By the time you use an 8 ohm speaker , you would probably only have about 60 to 70 usable watts ....You could run any 2 Four ohm speakers in parallel (BW's ) and come up with 2 ohms and run the amp at the rated output .....Jim

They say it has a "Twin" voicing. That would be interesting to hear. Also, it looks like the effects are presets, selected for Jazz guitar, with no adjustments. Although 300 Ms delay and room reverb might be nice if they worked up a nice balance between the two. It would be cool if there were two power amps in it. Maybe if there is enough demand they will come up with a Jazzmaster Ultralight Stereo version. Or better yet how about a Steelmaster Ultralight Stereo? Maybe with seperate reverb and delay, sweepable mid and ...oh never mind, there probably aren't enough of us to create a demand.

Those Crates are $200 for 150 watts? That and a POD look like the ticket, unless the nostalgia of schlepping 100 lb. amps up and down stairs is too dear to part with.

Back in 67' Fender came out with a bass amp that had a small power unit that weighed about three lbs and the speaker cabinett had three - yes 3 12" speakers in it. It was the first transister amp I ever saw. I tried one for about a month and gave up on it. It would overload and kick out at bar volume. Does anyone else remember that amp?
