Fender Steel King / Six - String Guitar

Post by Steve Howard »

Anyone playing their six string through this amp? How is it?

Understand it is a great steel amp, but could you use it for double duty?

I plugged my old Strat into it when I first
got the amp last October. Definitely sounds
like a Fender! There's other great steel amps
out there, but they just "ain't happnin'" for
regular guitar. Even tried a Les Paul with
a Fulldrive II pedal (for overdrive). Sounded
terrific.

I have played electric guitar as well as fiddle on numerous occasions through my Steel King. Sounds absolutely great.

Well, if James says it sounds great, thats quite an endorsement. I guess now I have another item for my must have list!

The first night I used my Steel King at a live performance I played my Steelmaster and old Stratocaster through it. They both sounded great.

I was thinking about when I first heard Ray Flacke playing a tele through the L9 Lab Series, and thought I need to get an amp with a 15" speaker. I tried out the Steel King with a tele. Killer! I'm gonna get one for the PSG and tele.

Thought I'd resurrect this and see if anyone has some settings to post for their six string.

Right now, I am playing my steel with the following settings:

EQ Tilt: 12:00 - 1:00
Treble: 12:00 - 1:00
Mid: 12:00
Shift: N/A
Bass: 3:00

When I am switching to my Tele I am changing just two knobs to:

EQ Tilt: 5:00 (full right)
Treble: 3:00

Just curious what others might be doing.

My 40-year-old Gretsch 6120 sounds great through my Steel King.

My Gibson Byrdland has the jazz vibe with the Steel king. I have not tried a guitar with single coil pickups with it.

Fender has a "companion" amp to the Steel King called the Jazz King. I haven't looked at one close enough to discover the differences.
