Stereo Volume pedal or ?

Post by Gibson Hartwell »

I'm looking for a way to go into my VS-II to tune volumeless between (or during for that matter) songs. I'm currently using a Goodrich L10K that has two outs. I use one to the amp and the other to the tuner.

Does anyone know if there is a steel guitar volume pedal out there right now that will swing volume output from one jack to the other when the pedal is rocked? Is this something I could modify in my current pedal?

I would like to get around using an AB box if possible as I've already got too much going on at my feet as it is!

With a typical modern two outlet pedal (Hilton, Goodrich) you may not need an A/B box. Just keep your tuner plugged into the second output jack of the pedal, and turn your amp volume down temporarily (or hit standby) when you want to tune silently. This only works if you can reach your amp easily.

I don't know about the specifics of this particular volume pedal, but it doesn't seem like it should be too tough to disconnect the second output and "hot-wire" it to the input. I've done this on 2-output volume pedals, for the purpose of running to a tuner or just to have one amp remain on all the time. Mostly, I used this to variably kick in/out a second amp with the first one running all the time. On an active pedal, this worked nicely, since the first output was isolated from the second by the active volume pedal circuit. I suggest if you don't know much about wiring or electronics to let a pro do it, but it's not difficult.
