Reverb units?

Is there much difference between a Boss RV3 and RV5?

The RV-3 incorporates Delay and reverb modes. (discontinued). Probably the best pedal Boss ever built.

The RV-5 has several different reverb modes only.

The RV3 can't be the best Boss unit ever made. It changes the tone (I've tried four different units and a friend tried two different units and they were all the same), which a DD-5 does not do.

The RV3 controls leave a lot to be desired too. Not enough individual control of the delay and reverb.

I just bought an RV-5 and use it with my 3 amps, Peavey Nashville 400 with factory mod(no reverb mod), Peavey 112 and a Webb 6-14E. The Webb amp has by far the smoothest and deepest reverb of all the amps. The RV-5 beats all the reverbs hands down. I use spring, plate and hall reverbs with good results to my ear. I have the RV-5 plugged in after the foot volume and it directly feeds the amp. All cords are George L low capacitance. I sometimes run a GX-700 multi-effects unit right out of the guitar and before the pedal (Goodrich standard pot pedal). Both effects units degrade the sound somewhat but the RV-5 sounds great with adjustments to the amp EQ. I haven't tried it in the amp effects loop. Nothing seems to have as good a tone as plugging directly into the guitar but the RV-5 reverb is so spectacular that I can't enjoy playing without it. I've never owned an RV-3 so I can't speak about it but with the RV-5 I am forced to add another unit such as the GX-700 if I want echo/delay.

Don't you guys have any EQ adjustments on your amps?

BTW, what has the DD-5 got to do with this thread? It's about reverb, not delay.

I should have known you would know a lot more about this, or anything than I do.

The RV3 was one of the more popular FX pedals Boss produced. It has several settings of delay, reverb and delay AND reverb. It is one of the easiest stomp boxes to set and reset that I have ever owned. Lloyd Green uses one exclusively and if it changes the tone like that, I'm going to put about 6 or 7 in line between my guitar and the amp because I don't think tone comes any better than what Lloyd gets. With the 3 control knobs you can dial up as much or as little fx as you wish and you can add as much delay and reverb as you want. To me these were the best stomp box fx units Boss produced.

I use a RV-3 with my Fender, Peavey and Evans Amps and it doesn't change my tone, nor do I have any trouble adjusting it to get the sound that I am looking for.
