Amps at the ISGC?

Post by Joe Alterio »

All,

What amps were most prevalent during ISGC? I am curious if there were any steelers using the older Peavey Sessions or the new Fender amps....?

I didn't see all the players, but I didn't see anyone use a Steel King on stage. I did hear one in the Fender room and it sounded good. Most players used their own rack rigs or the Peaveys on stage. Some of the best tone I heard was through two Nashville 112's. Those are great little amps.

Peavey Electronics Corporation is proud to be a co-sponsor of the St. Louis Steel Guitar Convention this year and have been a major player(no pun intended) for the past 30 or so years. No other musical instrument manufacturer can make this claim as we have supported the steel guitar community by providing the sound system for this event since day one.

All of the backline consisted of Nashville 1000's and Nashville 112 amplifiers and most performers chose to use these amplifiers.

There were Nashville 112's everywhere, including mine. I had to put my name on it real clear just in case it got lost in the crowd. Those things seem to be multiplying like rabbits each steel show I go to. Great amp.

When Paul Franklin was setting up and soundchecking on the big stage I passed right in front of the pair of 112's he was using, and was again reminded why so many of us like that amp so much. And then again when he played his set, we sat in front of his amps hearing more of them than the PA. Such a clear sound. Johnny Cox has come across a cool discovery too. He stacks the pair. The bottom one couples with the floor and gives a bigger bass response than the top one. He balances the two amps to get the right sound.

Hey Mike, did you know they'd be such a big hit?

Brad, thanks for your kind words. It was good to see you at the convention as well. I first took the "Nashville 100" to the St. Louis Convention three years ago. Unfortunately, no one noticed the difference on the nameplate of the amp, ie; 100 vs. 1000. I guess that everyone thought it was a 1000 even though it was smaller in size. So, I made the name change to the Nashville "112". I think that this small name change actually assisted in getting this model noticed. Then, people began to pick it up. To their surprise, it was lightweight! But, when our customers and non-customers played through it, that was the key................

It sounds really good and I urge you to try one out at your dealer. Here's a link to the Nashville 112 from the Peavey website;
