112 & Profex 2 settings

Post by Richard Tipple »

Im using my Profex 2 for Reverb & Delay with my Nashville 112.
The problem I am having is I get a slightly distorded sound at higher volumes.
I am using the power amp in and out for the connection to the 112. I used the settings for the Reverb & Delay that Jack Stoner so kindley refered me to a while back, by the way,, thanks Jack Image
The front setting on the Profex 2 is run about 4 and the rear output of the Profex is set at about 9
Any idea what Im doing wrong here ?

The preamp out of the amp is capable of overdriving the input of the Profex 2. Make sure the Profex 2 input overload indicator light goes green only occassionally. The unit will clip with a nasty distortion before the light turns red! The output of the Profex 2 is capable of 1 volt RMS, I would think that could drive the power amp-input of the Nashville 112 very well. If not, it can be modded to deliver 2 volts RMS with two 10K resistors added to the unit.
[This message was edited by Ken Fox on 07 September 2005 at 03:51 PM.]

I just checked the specs. The preamp out is -3.1dbV or .7 volts RMS nominal. Way to hot for the input of the Profex, in my opinion. I would use the Pre EQ out, -18.8 dbV or 117mV nominal out. Use the EQ in to return the signal. Ideally the light should not clip at all, as above. Adjust the output of the Profex 2 to obtain the same volume as the amp would have with the Profex out of the circuit.

It is a little hotter but no where near as hot as the power amp loop!

There is also an assigable effects loop in the Profex 2 that allows you to use the rear connectors for an effects loop. It takes some programming, but you can regulate the amount of send and return this way, too. You would however have to assign it to every preset you wanted to use!

Hopefully the post EQ loop will serve you better!
[This message was edited by Ken Fox on 07 September 2005 at 06:13 PM.]
