Sessions 400 Limited

Post by Ray Uhl »

I have a Sessions 400 Limited, black face, purchased in 1988-89. No matter how I set the other controls, I need to set the treble almost off. Do any of you electronic guru's know of any modifications that would reduce the treble circuit. The amp may sound fairly decent, if this change could be made. I've decided to "mess" with it again. Quit playing it long ago because of this tonal characteristic.

Might be worth a try, turning the bass and shift controls up. Image

Hi Ray,
I have Session 400 Ltd that I have used all
the time since 92.I got a LeMay mod installed after 3 years.I always struggled to get it dialled up to sound good,to get it to sing a certain way only getting medium
results.I heard Jeff Newman getting great tone using one (unmod) with a zum and a dd3.
Conclusion;the amp is as good as you need but it takes a lot of familiarity with it to get good results.I have persevered with mine and I have been getting better results and I like the amp a lot now.I used an Alesis Quadraverb GT (input r)between the steel and (output r)the vol pedal went between the Alesis and (power amp in) on the session. This bypasses the amp eq and uses the Alesis eq.This worked great and changes the amps sound and works with any similar processor you may have.Nowadays I simply use an RV3 between the vol pedal and the high gain input and can get it sounding good if not great.I meant this to be a short reply Ray so sorry if there is too much info but I hope you get something out of it.Best Regards Phil

Ray, I have been raving about my 400 Limited here many times. I feel the PV Mod kit is the answer. Its about$35..and the install was about 60. It has made all the difference in the world in this amp.
My current settings:
Low. 3
Mid. 5
Shift.7
High. 0
Pres. 4
With Mod kit installed...I run a DD3...from a Hilton Pedal to the "high imput" .and it is now, the best sounding amp I have ever had.
I agree w/o that kit..it was "OK"..but, that "Tone Enhancement Kit" from PV..has made it a "super" sounding amp.
[This message was edited by Richard E. Lee on 24 August 2005 at 04:11 PM.]

Thanks, guys. I appreciate all your comments. I'll get a Mod Kit and go from there. I purchased it new, didn't use it much, but as I said eariler got the bug to resurrect it. Image
