Anyone heard of Avatar speaker cabs?

Amplifiers, effects, pickups, electronic components, wiring, etc.

These are supposed to be very high quality cabs for not a lot of $$$. Thinking of getting one for my guitar rig. Wonder how they would be for steel?

Oh yeah. Those look like great speaker cabinets. The G115 is $239 loaded with an Eminence 15" Big Ben. It's a little deeper and maybe a little heavier than a Marrs cab, but that will give you stronger lows. The 3/4" birch plywood sounds about ideal. I have never heard the Big Bens. They are fairly new; and I have never heard them discussed on the Forum. It looks like they are modelled after British speakers, which are known for being more "chimey" than American speakers. I don't know how that will work for steel - it may be too midrangey. We are use to the American, JBL or Peavey sound, with a fatter bottom.

On the guitar forums I've read nothing but great reports about Avatar's cabinets and service.

I have a good buddy here that owns a music store. He is the one that told me about these Avatar cabs. He said they will compare to all the really high end stuff.....Mesa, Bogner and so on....for a fraction of the price. He is not a dealer for them either. He uses one on stage and loves it. He said to just order one and buy it online. Very high quality for the money. I am about to order one. I'll report back with my findings.

I have two of their cabinets; a double 10" and a single 15". Both have a tweeter. The quality is first class. These are bass cabinets. I drive them with a Peavey Mark III bass head and sometimes with a Peavey Mark III "Musician" head...fantastic sound!

Mark,
Follow this link....I ended up buying a pair of cab's from Rick Johnson and they're great looking , and sounding cabinets...
I also bought cabinet's for guitar and bass from Avatar....Actually I just recently bought a 2-12 cab with Eminence Wizards in the cab wired for 4 ohm for guitar work ...They're really well built, and sound GREAT !!...$303 w/speakers shipped to my door !!...Ya can't beat that with a stick ...Here's an old link http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum11/HTML/006626.html
Good Luck .....Jim<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by James Quackenbush on 22 August 2005 at 03:30 PM.]</p></FONT>

First of all, a big yes to Rick Johnson's cabs. I'm very pleased with my 2 x 12 Fender style pine box.
A while ago I remember reading that the Avatar cabs came without speaker mounting posts--you had to screw the speakers right to the baffle. This bothered me a bit and made me hesitate about ordering the cab I was thinking of at the time. Can anybody confirm or deny this?

Thanks for that info boys. I don't know how I missed that info back when it was originally posted. That was a lot of help.
