Rewiring question, neck pocket sealant?

Amplifiers, effects, pickups, electronic components, wiring, etc.

Rewiring question, neck pocket sealant?

Post by David Mason »

I'm going to do a little work on a couple of cheap six-string guitars. What's the usual grade of wire to use to wire pickups, pots, jacks and switches? And, I have an bolt-neck Ibanez with lacquer bumps in the neck pocket. I want to sand it flat for a better fit. What could I seal the wood with afterwards?

Anything from 20 to 24 gauge stranded hookup wire seems to be normal.

Some thinned lacquer or polyurethane would probably be fine for the neck pocket.

David,
What I have found that works good for sealing up the wood is clear lacquer in a spray can from Wal Mart. If you really want to get fancy use a sanding sealer prior to the lacquer. Image
