Boss RV-3

Post by Joe Savage »

I've got an RV-3 that has become microphonic. Was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how to solve it.
I've checked the I/O jacks and they seem fine. Really get the sounds when tapping on the board itself or moving some of the wires around inside. I have looked for cold solder joints w/a magnifier, but found nothing so far. I really like the unit which is no longer made, I understand.
It seems to function properly, but causes noise when I'm on an active or lively (bouncy) stage or too close to a bass cabinet. Thx. Joe

The RV-3 seem to be more fragile than other Boss pedals. I sold one to a member who had been through 3 of them in the past year. Also see this discussion of microphonics: http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum11/HTML/005464.html

Sounds like a common problem. Could that be the reason they've been discontinued? Maybe the RV-5 is the way to go. I never use the delay portion anyway.
Thx.

When I owned an RV–3 I always had a problem getting the proper Blend of Delay & Reverb, I guess because; the Reverb is Pre~Set in each Mode!
