Post by William Johnson »

who may know what brand the fuzz tone on "Wheels" by Flying Burritto Bros might be? i like the clarity of the fuzz, its not over-drive of course.

A Fuzz-Face would come close to that sound. I love the way that string just fuzzzzzzes out of nowhere in that song:

"We're not afraid to ride.........neeeerrrrruuuuuuw!"

It's a unit Sneaky made himself. I wonder if he still has an old schematic laying around?

Anyway, I've found two that get that thick, gnarly fuzz, and on opposite ends of the scale:

1. The ZVex Fuzz Factory. Used about $175.00. Great fuzz, you HAVE to read the instructions. There are so many types of fuzz available it's mind-boggling. It's what I ususally use.

2, The old Ibanez Sound Tank FZ-5. About $15-20 used. One sound, but THAT sound. I lost mine somewhere! Probably in one of my gig boxes somewhere...
