crackling/"bacon sizzling" noise
I'm very happy to report that Sam Marshall diagnosed the noise problem of my new 65 Twin Reverb 15 correctly as the reverb recovery tube. I replaced that 12AX7 and now she sounds like a dream. Beautiful tone.

I'll go along with that! The ’65 Re-Issue is a dream to play through! Both PSG and Non-Pedal! I even use about the same settings for both!

I was wondering about that too. Wouldn't a more correct description be "reverb buffer" or "reverb return tube"?
