ART SLA Amps
Does anyone have any experience with the ART SLA-1 or SLA-2 amps. They are one rack space and the SLA-2 amp makes 200 watts per channel @ 8 ohms. The sla-2 is also fan cooled. I have read very favorible things about the SLA-1. I am looking for an amp for my rack rig and I was wondering if this would make a good power amp. Peavey DPC 750's used sell for more than one of these new. I can buy the sla-2 for about $279 brand new with a 3 year warranty.

The best solid state amp for instruments is the MosValve 500 (and the reissued 1500). They are the most "tube sounding" amps and are made for instrument amplification.
I have a Peavey DPC-1000 and a MosValve 500 and they are both great amps, but the MV500 has much better tone with my steel.
I tried a Carvin stereo power amp one time and it had great frequency response but like the DPC-1000 wasn't as good as the MosValve 500.

In the For What It's Worth department, I just recently went to a Stewart World 1.6, driven by my Pod Pro XT, and I think I've found what I've been looking for for >35 years. I use one or two Marrs cabinets with BW's in them, and the sound is terrific. I went from using one or two Webb 614-E's, and or my ShoBud single channels.
It's light, loud as you want, and there is no point at which the amp breaks up.

I've been sniffing around for a power amp lately myself, and I have to add that the Mosvalves get great recommendations on sound but they seem to have some reliability/repair issues. The company has changed hands a few(?) times, the designs have changed with them and the new owners won't service the old ones etc. If I was set on new, I'd probably go for a Stewart or a Peavey DPC and design space and/or a fan into the rack for cooling. Since I'm only looking for home use and weight isn't an issue, the old Crown D-series and Peavey CS-series are a dime a dozen on Ebay.
