Looking for an amp, going nuts...

Post by Terje Larson »

First I need to state that I do not play pedal steel, although this is the sound I want to emulate. I play an elelctric solidbody balalajka and emulating the pedal steel on it is both futile and fun at the same time. It happens that I get pretty close.

What am I looking for? First of all something that's smaller than the Yamaha but sounds just as good. One option is the Roland Cube 30 but for instance the Peavey Envoy could be another option.

I'm also looking a little for something that could give me "the ultimate tone". One thought here is the Nashville 112, another might be a big Fender amp. Or maybe a Roland Cube 60 for the bigger gigs and the Cube 30 for the smaller. I'm no tube or solid state snob, if the amp sounds good I don't care what's in it.

I play at very low volumes most of the time so I need the amp to be quiet. I use a volume pedal and the amp is often run pretty hot while I use very little of the clean headroom it has. You know how this works. Any suggestions and ideas would be thankfully appreciated.
