VHT amps

Post by Mark Metdker »

I am thinking of buying one of the new VHT Pitbull Super 30 amps. This will be my amp for lead guitar. I was just wondering if anyone here has a VHT amp/amps and how do you like them? This little amp I am thinking of buying is supposed to be one of the most versatile amps made. Lots of different tones abvailable.

Mark according to the site there are ONLY 200 going to be made. So when you are done trying it out, let us know. It does look good, and it is not the Marshall that was being directed your way.

also

Bless your heart.

I used to sell VHT amps, and they were absolutely wonderful. You can't go wrong, IMHO- every one I ever played was just a killer. They ain't cheap, though!

I have a good buddy who is one of only two VHT dealers in Texas. He will get a new shipment in next week. He is raving about them, and I trust his judgement.

keith, thanks for your input. I guess you would know more about these amps than anyone here.

Jon, no Marshalls will junk up my closets! This VHT is small and easy to lug around. That is another plus about it. Also it is "Class A" wired. Should be a loud little dude too.

Now, I have to figure out a way to convince the wife why I need an $1100 amp when I already have 4 Fender amps at the house. Image

I remember a review in Guitar Player magazine from about 91/92. They reviewed a Pittbull head, which is a three channel 100 watt monster. One of the main things that they raved about was the CLEAN tone of the amp. Something about how they wished that all manufacturers would pay as much attention to this function as VHT did.

They have also reviewed the smaller combos several times over the years, and I don't recall them ever being less than thrilled with them.

Hey Artie,
Yes I have heard the same things about VHT amps. The locals here who have used them also rave about the clean tones of the amp. I think I will be picking the amp up this week. I'll give a review later.

I have a couple of VHT amps....I have the VHT 50 watt Pittbull combo that won the Guitar Player 50 watt shootout a few years ago with quite a few 50 watters competeing for the prize ....It was a whole issue devoted to the shootout ... It's a great amp ....Nice clean American tone's on the clean channel, and it can go from a nice overdrive to a a Pittbull snarl when pushed, and a great tone with volume that will make enemie's of your neighbor's !!

I also use a 2-90-2 power amp for pedal steel ...It has 2 - KT 88's for each channel
(2 channel amp ) and claim's 180 watt's RMS @ 8 ohm's ....It's got more power than you will ever need, and tone like no other power amp out there ....

VHT is not light in weight, nor is a cheap, but if it's tone you're looking for , with great customer service, look no further......Jim

I also use the VHT 2-90-2 power amp in my rack setup and as James stated it has, "tone like no other!"

Yeah the clean tones on ALL the VHT's are pretty unbelievable. When I used to demo them I'd generally have this sort of scenario;

Customer comes into the store, claims to be "just looking"; Makes a beeline for the Pittbull at the back of the store. Walks around in front of it for a minute, looks into the back of the amp. I ask him if he wants to hear it. At first he puts it off as too expensive to seriously consider, then says "why not?" Gives me a serious case of the stinkeye when I get down a Danelectro with rusty strings, and set it up; I tell him "if it sounds good with this, it'll sound good with anything, right?"
About 2 minutes later I go back to where he is sitting on another amp looking stunned. I take back the Dan-O, hand him a Custom Shop Tele or a Les Paul depending on his taste, and leave again. Generally the credit card is already in his hands when I come back; I can only remember one case where the buyer changed the amps settings, or even tried the second channel...
