Advice on Twin Reverb

Post by Drew Howard »

If you've seen my previous posts, I just got a '76 Twin Reverb. 100 watts, pull master, new MojoTone tubes, one JBL K-120 12", one Oxford 12T6 12".

I've read about various easy mods, and definitely want reverb on both channels.
I'll have a tech look at the amp soon. Anything else I should add to my list of tweaks/mods?

thanks,
Drew

Drew, you might have the slope resaistor changed from 100K to 56K on one of the channels. It is a nice change for steel or six string. More pronounced mids!

Good Luck with your TWIN Drew.. You will SOON be addicted to the Fender tube sound.. I'll bet within a year your Peavey will be a fond memory... maybe..

I know everyone else likes it, but personally, if I had bought your Twin that paisley cloth would be given a Christian burial.. out in the yard next to the petunias!! Image... in any case, enjoy your Twin. Some guys take the 12's out and use a single 15, but I wouldn't... I think they sound great for steel as they are.. your set up is a good one... with only 1 JBL.. its works great that way, I have done it in the past and actually like the sound better than with 2 JBL's.... bob

Bob,

The Peaveys are lighter, but the string separation and harmonics are so much better with tubes. Can't wait to here it in the studio.

I also like Ken's slope resistor mod for steel.

I run my steel through an A-B box after the volume pedal, so I can use both channels. A: Normal channel, for my C6th neck. B: Reverb channel, with the 56k slope resistor, for E9th. I love my Twin!
