Xmas tree

Post by Lee Jeffriess »

I have a, dual channel Sho bud amp, that I just had recapped, and i have a couple of questions, for the guys, that know there early solid state ie Cain Standel.
Last night i had Jimmy Roy, the steel man from the Flyrite boys, road test it for me.
Over all,I was very happy, it sounded great, but it was clipping when he was playing dense chords.
It seemed to me it was biased cold, but my tech put it to the factory spec 20mv.
I have been told these amps, do better biased hotter, any sugestions.
Finaly the amp when i got it had a bad pop when it was turned off, my tech altered the differential, and now its silent when turned off, but theres a smaller pop when its turned on, the bad one he measured at 13v and the lesser one at 1.4v, in his words its a trade off.
My concern is for my speaker, i use an Altec 418-B, as some of you know its a sensetive driver, and i would think it doesnt like pops?.
Any thoughts.

Rest easy...the "pops" won't hurt the speaker. Their duration is too short, and their frequency too high, to do any damage.

Do it using a scope and set the crossover flat spot to minimum.
