BOSS tuner affects tone?

Amplifiers, effects, pickups, electronic components, wiring, etc.

BOSS tuner affects tone?

Post by Dwayne Martineau »

Questions on the bypass circuitry in the BOSS TU-2 Chromatic Tuner...

Does keeping the tuner inline affect tone?

And, if so...

Tonewise, is it smarter to come out thru the OUT or the BYPASS?

Or should it just be unchained...?

Dwayne, I don't know about the TU-2, but I had the TU-12 which would distort if you tried to put it in line. Boss solved this by coming out with the TU-15 which has an impedance matcher in the tuner to eliminate any signal loss or distortion when you use it in line. I have never had any problem with signal loss or distortion with the TU-15.

Hey Dwayne; I use this tuner also>

I haven't noticed any difference in the Bypass or Out; and as far as effecting the tone, it certainly does not distort like the TU-12 and sounds nice and clean to me. If it does effect the tone; it is in a sweeter way to my ears.

I also use one, and have since I can remember (20+years) and have never had a problem with it.

I was thinking of buying one of these (TU2) for my guitar set up, as it can support multiple effects with one wall-wart.
I was hesitant due to the known tone issue(s) with the TU12(H) (Which I like for tuning steels, but wouldn't use it "in-line").
Glad I saw this thread!

I agree with Ricky. Excellent little tuner and I can't hear a difference either. Loren.

Yes, a tuner left in line will affect the tone, in my experience.
