A very lucky Profex 2!

Post by Ken Fox »

Got one in today that was a lucky Profex 2! It had been in a rack, upright all its life. The battery had leaked, worst I have ever seen! Almost all the acid had dripped to the rear panel and just been eating away at it instead. Jack Burnside sent this one to me. Looked like new on the outside! He had never ever had a low battery indication either! They leak a long time before they quit working. See pictures of the battery here, click the picture to enlarge: http://community.webshots.com/album/275695521aqSnOy?107

Them old Varta Nicad batteries really tear up some of the old '386 motherboards that haven't been looked at in years. Every once in a while the need for an old MOBO comes up, and if the batteries have been ignored, usually this is the result. Not pretty.

For sure, Ray. Peavey was not the only victim of the Varta NiCads!

I just wish more folks would take the cover off and check the things! It is not always to late to fix them, most of the time. Some, are beyond repair if they go too long.
