What is wrong with my 2.0??

Post by Terry Sneed »

I sent the pod 2.0 I had back and traded it for another. Although this one don't make a loud hiss every time the tap button lights, I'm gettin a scratchin/roar/rumble sound coming through my amp, same as the last one. I thought it might be my amp, so I hooked it up to my wife's Bassman 100 and got the same roar/rumble sound.
still gettin a good bit of distortion, but my main problem now is this roarin/rumble sound. What could be causing this? any ideas?

Terry

Chris, I'm not sure. But since I started hookin my pod to the power-amp-input on the back of my amp, instead of the imput on the front of my amp, I no longer have that roarin/rumble sound. If you have a power-amp-in, try it and see if that solves the problem.

Hey Dave, what do you think was causing this rumble/roar when I plugged into the front of my amp?
And what is the difference in the 2.0 and the 2.0 with the 2.3 upgrade? I've purty much solved the noise problem including the hissin sound I was gettin since I plugged into the power-amp-in on the back of my amp.
I'm thinkin of keepin it now, it's just the idea of Musicians friend sending me the un-updated version. If there's a big difference in the two, I'm sendin this one back to them.!

The power-amp-input of your Session 500 bypasses the Session preamp stage, which was probably amplifying the noise coming from the steel (via the Pod). I agree completely, use the power-amp-input. The whole point of the Pod, to me, is to use that as the preamp, and use the cleanest, most uncolored possible power amplifier to feed the speaker. I use a solid-state Ampeg bass amp. I set all controls completely flat, and it's as clean as a whistle but not brittle-sounding.

On the difference between the 2.0 and 2.3, I don't really claim special technical knowledge, but their Knowledge Base says this about the different versions:

Changes from v2.1 to v2.3:

Latch mode was added:

- Hold down Tap Tempo and Manual at the same time

- - Manual and tap tempo will flash

- - All dials act as if you are holding down Tap Tempo
Delay carry-over was removed to allow latch mode

- When you switch patches your delay will not carry over, it turns off

Changes from v2.2 to v2.3:

Some amp models were slightly changed

- Most noticeably the Marshall sims

- Some cab models were changed.

Personally, I'd insist on v2.3. At this URL, http://www.line6.com/software/?submit=Show%3A&hardware=POD+2.0&name=Flash +Memory&os=All, it says to call 818-575-3600, and they'll send you an EPROM to upgrade the unit at no charge. That sounds like a good solution, might want to try that before you send it back.

Edit: You may need to reselect "Pod 2.0" and "Flash Memory" from the drop-down boxes to get the EPROM Flash info

[This message was edited by Dave Mudgett on 29 March 2005 at 06:40 PM.]
