Black Box vs. Hilton powered volume pedal

Post by Donald Dunlavey »

If you have a black box, do you need a Hilton Pedal, or If you have a Hilton Pedal do you need a black box. They both claim impedance matching for pickups, tone improvement and lack of tone suck. Little confusing since I have'n had a chance to try both. Could someone help with some feedback concerning these two units. Thanks

I won't get into which is better.
I believe the SGBB has a money back guarantee.
I think you will like the SGBB. IF not, send it back and try the Hilton.

my 2c.

Hi Donald, I use both. The Hilton pedal is great as you will not have any noisey volume pots, very smooth and a comfortable height.
The Black Box is great for using with a solid state amp and also for recording direct, makes it sound more like the old Fender valve amps.
I find they are a great combination and would not want to be without either.

Kinda' like comparing apples vs. oranges. They really don't do the same thing in the signal circuit. Used together they make a super input to any amplifier, solid state or tube type. IMHO.

Donald, I have no doubt they're both very good products. The key wording, however, in your question is "do you need?".

I'll just say that a good number of steelers play without either one.

Larry,
Do you use the Black Box with your Fender Steelking? If so can you describe the difference with/without it? Sure love my steelking! Thanks Image

I also use both and they work very well together when connected as recommended. I use them through my two piece Webb 614E and mount the speaker on the Enhancer. My Mullen D-11 never sounded better. There's not enough "O"s in SMOOOOTH.

I use both, and don't want to play without either of them.
The pedal is the greatest and the Black Box just enhances the whole system, guitar, rack and amp.
