Multi F/X Units

Post by Lee Baucum »

There's been lots of discussion about POD's lately. I'm really not that interested in various amp models. I'm happy with my old Evans amp. I am, however, interested in all of the effects that are built in to the POD's. Are there any multi f/x units out there, other than rack mount units? I'm looking at retiring my rack system and getting something small that will give me reverb, delays, chorus, etc. I'm thinking that maybe the less expensive POD 2 might do the trick.

Any suggestions? I don't really want to buy several stomp boxes. I would like to find something small that does it all. Is it out there?

Check out the Boss GT-6 http://www.bossus.com/index.asp?pg=1&tmp=85

I've been using one for a couple of years now and it does what I want a multi-fx box to do.

More knobs than Carter has little liver pills.
Very easy and intuitive to use. It's like having a reverb, delay, chorus, eq, wah, distortion stomp box all hooked up all the time, PLUS the ability to add one or two other fx of your choice and save EVERYTHING in user defined presets. GREAT LITTLE BOX.

It does have amp modeling too, but I don't use it. I just use a generic preamp model that gives me EQ at my fingertips. Works for me.

Cage turned me on to it. Don't know if he is still using it, but I AM.

Lee, the best effects unit that I have personally used strictly for reverb, delay, & chorus is the T.C. Electronic M300. Not a preamp and no eq controls, only effects. In fact, I was using it with my first Evans FET 500 I had a couple of years ago and it sounded great! You even sent me a copy of the owner's manual for the Evans. Here is a link for your veiwing pleasure. These sell on ebay for around $140. This is a very lightweight unit, but it is rack mounting size. You may also want to consider a Boss Se-50, Se-70, or VF-1. These are half rack mount units and very good effects.

Tim - When you run your Pod into an amp, for live performance, do you use any of the amp models, or only the effects?

Lee,

I am actually using the "Jazz Clean" model of a Roland Jazz Chorus Amp. It is very clean. I also use the "Blackface Twin".

The Mp3 samples on my webpage use the Jazz Clean model if that helps. The POD xt is a superior piece of gear!

Billy, are you using the Digitech Quad 4 with your Stereo Steel rig or something else?

I ordered a Boss GS-10 It is a desktop model of a GT-6 (There is a GT-8 out now).

It has the stomp boxes built in for Guitar and Bass. So you can have Billy Phelps rig without having to bend over and adjust.

I'll probably post after I've had a chance to play with it. I saw it demoed at NAMM two years ago and waited for the price to come down.

I have a Flextone II head that has a POD 2.0 built in and you can tweek it on the fly but I mainly bought it for the 100 watt per chan into 16 ohms.

I bought a TubeWorks but it couldn't drive the speakers.

yes, I am using the Digitech Quad with my Stereo Steel.

I only use verb and a little delay.....and the unit came with my rig.

I use ONLY the POD XT PRO in the studio or fly dates though....
