Webb 6-14-E amp settings

Most everyone I know who uses one has the
selector switch on 2 and EQ switched off.
Start there, then adjust until it sounds
right to you.

Doug, its been my experience that most guys put the setting at the #2 position, not three. Bass 6-8, treble 2-3, mids 2-5. Sensitivity should be all the way on to avoid distortion. These are just my settings. Others may be different. The EQ section is not recomended to be used unless you have some very fine tailoring of the tone. I've done (3) 1+ hour gigs with this amp so far and have found that selector 2 is least harsh with tone settings pretty much as Kevin has listed. Selector 3 is very hard and will cut through. The amp came with a K-130-4. Two of the guys up here in the NW as well as the guy I bought it from said #3 with EQ switched out was the way to go. Keep those cards and letters coming.

I guess there are a lot of ways of getting there but Jeff Surratt sounded great on the Opry Saturday night. He stated that Lloyd Green helped him set the Webb and here is Jeff's quote from the thread over in Steel Players:

Your preference may be different, but the Sho-Bud guitar works best at these for us. The Webb is a very rich and full sounding amp. It's the first time I've really cut through after doing the TV spot many times. Thanks for the tip Lloyd.) Jeff

I like position 3 to the right for the tone setting. Sensitivity is 7-10, volume 2-3, treble at 6-7, mids at 5-6, bass 4-5, reverb at 21/2-3 and I haven't been using the EQ. I plug into the lo input and the speaker is an 8 ohm k-130.

Playing an MSA Millennium thru a Hilton pedal I get a rather bright tone, so my settings end up as follows with tweaks based upon the room:
sens. 10, vol. 3, treb. 0, mid. 3, bass 5, rev. 3, tone 2 or yellow straight up,
equalizer is off. I believe I read somewhere that Tommy White has the equalizer turned on but all knobs are set to '0'.

As has been said here before and I can confirm, eq set at zero actually reduces overall output. You would have to boost all eq pots to 2-3 to get to unity gain. I'm still working on dialing in my Webb but I'm getting there.

I have been useing sen all the way vol 6 treb 3 mid 2 bass 8 verb 6 with dd3 switch on 2.I do some acoustic work on the show and I have the eq side tweeked for it,Throw the switch and wa la.These are absolutely the best sounding amps I have ever played through and I am looking for an extra for my studio.

After fooling around with Doug's the other night, I'd have to agreee with you, Bob, that is one great sounding amp.

I finally got my old Randall SMA500 to sound right but that Webb has an extra edge to it that will probably have me shopping for one eventually. What was the speaker you had in there, Doug?

This Webb was built in 1978 and has a JBL K-130 4 ohm speaker.

Doug,
Tone is in the ear's of the beholder....One thing you may want to consider is the fact that the louder you play, and the higher the amp is turned up, will change you tone controls ....If you are playing very low, you will tend to BOOST the tone controls..
When you start going up in volume, if you leave them boosted, your amp will not sound the same, and will probably give you some distortion ...Less power-Higher tone settings.......High Power - Lower tone settings......I find the middle position to be the best all around, and then adjust the tone controls to taste....I rarely switch in the Equalizer to the right....I also have an early Webb w/JBL.....I run the Hilton pedal with the 2 out's ....One goe's to the Webb, and the other goes to a Steel King.....
