Profex 2:

1- Remove the top cover (six screws around the edge)
2- Remove the bottom cover (lots of screws here!)
3- You end up with a circuit board with a front and rear panel attached.
5- Do not remove solder from the battery terminals yet!
4- Heat the battery terminal at the PC board at the end of the battery with one terminal and pull up on the battery at the same time.
5-Heat the other two terminals, back and forth while pulling up on the battery.
6- After the battery is out use solder wick and an iron at 750 degrees max or a low wattage iron (20 watts or so) to remove solder
7- Clean the areas of solder and residue with Q-tips soaked in denatured alcohol or acetone (common fingernail polish remover)
8- Insert the new battery, bending tangs against circuit board and solder
9- Re-assemble and re-initialize.
10- Reload settings, all were lost during reinitialization.

I have done well over 100 batteries using this procedure.

I have ordered a Bassfex and Profex 2 for testing with a memory chip that just plugs in, no soldering. It will delete the need for a battery. If this works as I suspect, I will post it here in the Electronics sections asap. Right now I am changing batteries for a fee of $35.00 plus return freight. I will be able to do the chip at the same price. I also save and reload customers settings or load Newman settings for them from my Midi-Filer.

If you decide you don't want to change the battery yourself, I highly recommend sending it to Ken Fox for fast reliable service. My Profex II suffered some serious battery leakage and Ken was able to replace the battery, thoroughly clean the board and reload my lost Newman presets.

You can actually do this while the unit is plugged in but I do not recommend it..I've done it but I've done lots of crazy things.

This is a low voltage circuit I think 3.5 volts...

When you replace the battery get a dual molex type of connector from Radio shack..attach the wires of one end of the connector to the circuit bd and the other ends to the battery. Wrap the battery up and secure it so it does not move around and short anything out and you will never have to unsolder it from the PC bod again..or turn the unit off to change batteries..although it will probably last another 15 years..

just my take..

Batteries are available from the factory as well by calling toll free in North America at 1-877-732-8391, ext. 1180.

We'll be glad to assist.

Just got the Bassfex done and it works great (same product as a Profex 2, even has the Profex 2 circuit board in it). It is up and running with Newman settings loaded. The Profex 2 is next. I should have it done in a few minutes!

Looks like the end of batteries for the Profex 2. I will post more later

Well Ken, the next question is:
Will this also work on the Session 2000?
Just thinking ahead.

Yes on the Session 2000. It was already known to work on this and the Tubefex/Transtubefex.
