Time to Boycott Monster Cables

Just became aware of this-but it's time to stop supporting this kind of behavior..

Besides, there's no difference between these cables and anyone else's. Except for the effect on your wallet. I've never heard a difference, in the studio or out live. It's like the supposed taste difference between 3.2 and regular beer-doesn't exist.

There's a big difference--price. Besides the fact that Monster Cable is worse than any cheap cable I've used (the instrument cable, at $45 a pop). My boycott started the minute the second one crapped out.

Monster Cable sucks in a monster way.

I have two and don't hear any particular difference, but use them in case I golden ear listens in. But I don't need more.

And these suits are really happy horse poop in the big scheme of Monster Cables business plan.
Absolutely irrelevent...
except to their lawyers getting $500 and hour to pursue people in other totally different markets.

Too many lawyers with too much idle time. Remember when McDonald's ws trying to stop anyone from using the "Mc-" prefix? What a GREAT P.R. move that was!

I was wondering about Monster Jobs, and had the same trepidation of them hooking you up with actual monsters. I'm not going to invite any more into my life at this point.

I did send one, and it won't get me sued.

I basically said :
I have been a Monster Cable customer.
I will no longer buy your products,
because I see the suits as frivolous,
and wasting my tax money in the court system.
As well as raising the cost of you products.

Which is true.
If they think they are still gaining by this they will continue,
but if they think they are losing in their real market because of this,
then imagined branding issues
will lose out to actual customer goodwill.

Sounds like a NAACP boycott!!! North American Association of Cable Pullers, or if you're using these junky monster cables, Need An Adequate Cable Please?

I've been using the George L cables for a while now and have always been happy with them, I'm also thinking about trying the Lawrence cables. I've always thought the monster cable stuff was waaaaaaaay overpriced and over rated.

Yea, I've avoided Monster cable in general because the stuff is so overpriced. The cable itself is pretty decent, but the assembly (soldering ends on the cable) techniques may have taken a quality downturn in recent years. Probably super-cheap manufacturing methods while boosting already stupid-high prices. The company used to be a pretty cool and smart bunch of guys, but when you get that huge, sometimes things turn ugly.

If you want truly high-end professional cables, use the Mogami or Canare wire at about 50 cents per foot and put some real nice Neutrik ends on them. That's pretty much what most pro studios are using for microphone and interconnect cables. The stuff is better and cheaper than Monster's stuff. Oh, did I say "Monster"? Oops, I gotta run, I think there's a lawyer knocking on my door...

I sent them an email. These types of lawsuits results in an increase in price of all goods and services from all companies involved!

The main test for trademark infringement is whether or not any company's use of a word like "monster" creates confusion for the consumer.

I, the consumer, know that Monster Cable makes cables and wires.

I know that the video "Monster, Inc" is an animated movie.

I know that Monster.com is an internet job search engine.

etc., etc.

I am not confused! There is no confusion. This is frivolous. period. dot.

If there was another audio-products company using "Monster," I could understand. But this legal escapade seems pointless.

I'm calling Guitar Center tomorrow and telling them that I'm throwing out my Monster Cables and will not recomend them to anyone. If enough people do this they will be put out of business.

that is awful behavior on the part of monster cable. i'll be glad to not buy their products-i've gotten along my whole life without them.
here in missoula, our favorite brewery (big sky brewing) just settled a years-long lawsuit that was filed against them by moosehead beer over their popular moose drool beer. it always amazes me that corperate america thinks that we're all too stupid to differentiate between products with similar names.

I also made mention of the prior usage of Monster Mash, and that Monster cable was in infringment on that prior usage.

Again this may very weel be a case of
the in house council bigger than his britches,
and maybe getting his outside buddies some cash flow and part of a nusance settlement.

The Mogami wire is great, and I can trust my own soldering..

Monster Cable? I think I heard of 'em. I've been using Belden 8410 cable with 1/4" Switchcraft Plugs. I made these from "scratch" in the late 70's and they're still good. No popping or crackling. Too bad Belden no longer makes 8410 audio cable. It beats most other cables I've tried.

A similar thing happened last year in the San Antonio area regarding the name “road house”. There was a business in the LaVernia area which was using the name of the Texas Road House Tavern This was a beer join with live music and dancing. They were sued by the chain of Texas Road House restaurants out of Tennessee. Furthermore, the Tennessee Company said no business could use armadillos or similar decorations in their establishments because they had the “copy right” to those items... The owner of the LaVernia road house finally gave in and changed the name of his business, because it was going to cost more money than what it was worth to fight it.

I agree a lot of law suits have gotten out of hand. Having worked in law enforcement for 27 years and currently working for a major car insurance company investigation injury claims I see first hand what is happen every day.

It is costing each of us a lot of money each day. Sorry, about getting off into the insurance stuff.
