EVM 12-L Deluxe Reverb

Post by thurlon hopper »

Took the back parts off the Deluxe to install
an EVM 12-L but there is a transformer very
close to one of the magnet frame supports and
the EVM won't go in because there isn't enough clearance, Just wondered if any of you had experienced this type of problem before. If so; how did you solve it? TJH

I'm contemplating the same move for my Deluxe Reverb, using the speaker out of a Music Man 100RD amp. Will it fit?

When I put an EVm-12L in my DeLuxe, it did just fine with the transformer, but the reverb pan broke loose! Gotta love it!

The EVM certainly has an unusual physical structure. I haven't put one in an DR but thanks for the warning. Just a very longshot----can you remove the baffle and flip it around so the speaker is offset to the other side? I'm on uncertain turf here because my DR cab is a repro and I have no idea if it is 100% accurate. The speaker is offset to the left, the Ch. 1 side. Is this correct?

I'd have to take a look at mine, but I think
if you take out one of the screws mounting the
transformer to the chassis, you might be able
to pivit it around just enough the fit the
EVM in there. I'll double check it later.

if the EV has the slightly finned black cover over the magnet remove it, maybe that will give you the clearance you need

There might be enough room for the speaker but not enough clearance to actually get the speaker onto the mounting screws. You might need to pull the electronics out to get the speaker in. I think I remember doing that to mine.

Here's the fix:

Remove the speaker's finned back cover (as has been stated).

Move the front facing mounting point of the output transformer about 1-1/2~2". You'll have to drill a new hole for the front mounting and the transformer will be angled slightly but you'll be very happy with this speaker in a DR; I am!
