Sho-Bud volume pedal pot
I have a 'floor' model Sho-Bud volume pedal with a pot that went all scratchy and crackly. Is there any way I can clean the pot out and extend its life? I've been told that the pots are expensive and tricky to replace.

Spray electronic contact cleaner/lubricant at the base of the shaft of the pot several time while slightly pulling out on the shaft. Immediatly rotate the pot shaft. This will help, but might not cure it completely. They are not too bad to replace.
I would take a picture (close-up of the pot/string configuration. Fly fishing line (green) works well for the string. It usually takes a little tinkering, and some patience to get it set exactly right.
Good luck.

Leslie; Just tag all your wires and look very closely as to how the string is wrapped. I replaced mine this weekend and it was not all the hard and works great. I got my new pot from Danny at Bobbe Seymours shop and it fit and worked fine and was not all the expensive.
Just be sure that you get the correct pot. The ones from Radio shack are not what you need.

Les,
I've replaced the pot on my Sho-Bud pedal 3 times. I tried drilling a small hole in the pot--filled it with oil--then drained it out. It quieted it down for a while. The problem is that a little carbon contact wears down and the metal arm which holds it starts making contact with the reostat. There is NO fix---just replace. I found the best price from Goodrich Volume Pedals of Whitehall, MI.
Good luck
