Speaker Rotation?
Years ago an old Navy electronics tech told me that you should periodically rotate your speakers 180 degrees, because over time they tend to sag and rotating them counteracts that.
Anyone ever heard of this before? Agree? Disagree?

My amp guy says the same thing, that eventually they will sag and start to scrape. He's been doing amps since 1960, so he might have a clue. He reconed his share, too. He said JBL's were the worst.
[This message was edited by James Morehead on 07 November 2004 at 08:16 PM.]

That piece of pipe comin' outa the center of the vertical plane (where all the exponential horns are hangin') is the bass reflex port for the whole room. Gotta close the door when leaving else it'll blow ya clear the the Empire State Building
(Didja catch the size of the combination wrench set he's got layin' on the floor?)
[This message was edited by Ray Minich on 08 November 2004 at 11:22 AM.]

Ray that look more like 6" I beam to support the whole shebang.
Classic late 50's early 60's technology for theaters.
All pre Klipsch.
You can see the rudimentary horn like summming of all the air movement with the angled woofers baffles.Trying to add some directionality to all that airflow.
I bet it was running on tube amps in another room too, with some serious AC.
[This message was edited by David L. This is probably more of a JBL issue because of the closer spacing between the voice coil and the magnet than most other brands. With the wider gap, other speakers may not have this problem. By the way, a top-notch JBL speaker service rep in Houston told me about trying the rotation before doing a re-coning.
Thanx,
Jim
