Guitar Preamps

Post by Tom Gorr »

I've finally found a guitar preamp that has put an end to my GAS. An ADA MP-2. Simply amazing. 10 differnt preamp voices capturing all of the 'best' sounds - fender, marshall, & boogie, with voices for country, jazz/blues, rock metal....and Santana.

It does Marshall better than Marshall, and Boogie better than Boogie, IMO. 'Close' on the fendery shimmering clean voice.

Now I want to know - why don't my Boogie preamps (especially my Formula) sound as clear and detailed as the ADA. The 'texture' is similar on some voices - but the ADA is so much more detailed and articulate - even on neck humbuckers, even with overdrive and gain set high.

For reasons unknown - both detail and articulation' on my Boogie Formula falls apart if I put the gain over about 40%. And - if I want shear muddy crap, I switch over to a neck position humbucker...

I KNOW it could sound better - but wish I knew the magic trick to get it there. Can anyone recommend tube sequences, tone stack mods, etc. that I could try to fix this?
[This message was edited by Tom Gorr on 24 October 2004 at 09:34 PM.]
