Boss Digital Delay "High Cut Mod"

Post by Jerry Van Hoose »

I have never really liked the harshness of the repeats on Boss digital delay units. Recently, I discovered that Mike Piera at http://www.analogman.com can install a "high cut modification" that makes the repeats much smoother and warmer, much like an analog delay. His workmanship is excellent and presently, turnaround time is about a week.

Hi Jerry, I have a Chandler Stereo Digital Echo that has a hi cut switch. It stays on all the time and the sound is akin to the old tape echo units. Good to know this feature can be modded into the Boss pedals.

I recently got a Dan-echo. Chose it for this very feature--in this case it's a pot to dial down the highs for even more versatility. I like it a lot. The cluster of tiny knobs is the only negative. Not finger pick friendly.

--btw--my dad's name is Jerry so it's ok for me to post here.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Jon Light on 10 October 2004 at 09:20 AM.]</p></FONT>

I think that's what made the vintage echo/delay devices so desirable. The repeats were much lower fidelity than the source signal. These newer delays that let you roll out the highs of the repeats are a great idea. When you darken the repeats, you can get away with lots of delay without sounding messy or cluttering up the music. It's good to see that someone is modding these Boss delay pedals to do this repeat darkening. They're great delays, but they repeats are a bit too clean. I think the best guitar delay is the SIB Echodrive. Check out SIB's new solid-state delay pedal as well. The Line6 Delay Modeller is way cool too.
