Does Buddy Use Two Amps?

Post by Jerry Clardy »

There may already be info out there but I'd like to know: When Buddy plays live, does he use two amps? Does anyone know his setup with respect to dry and effects mix? Miked amps or direct?

OK, since nobody is jumping in here . . .
Buddy sounds great no matter what he plays through. I've seen him play live dozens of times and he's played through one amp some times (often a Vegas 400) or a pair of amps other times. Usually Peaveys. I couldn't tell much difference between one or two amps. He is so much in control of his sound that his technique can make anything sound good. A truly musical player, first and foremost. And he appears to really love the sound of a good amp, so I'd doubt he'd be happy running direct (if that's what you mean).

My question is mainly how Buddy handles his Wet/Dry mix. Is he effectively using a mono setup with no separation of Wet and Dry? Does he use the effects loop of his amp for his Genesis 3 or does he use the Genesis as the preamp and use only the power amp? The direct or mike questions have to do with going to the pa from his stage amp.

He runs the Genesis in front of his amps. He's also got the new Fender amp so who knows
what he's using now. As Larry said he sounds good with whatever steel and amp he's using.
Another thing, run a search on the genesis 3
Buddy explained his setup.

Thanks, guys.... I've seen some info on Buddy's Genesis setup on the forum and on Ernie Renn's site. There's also some good info on Genesis settings on the forum in Dave Robbins' posts at http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum11/HTML/005828.html
I also see after looking in this section the Tony Dingus post on Genesis 3 that has some answers for me from The Man himself. Thanks again.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Jerry Clardy on 14 September 2004 at 09:40 PM.]</p></FONT>
