Need help on Peavey VMP-2 PreAmp

Post by Ron Randall »

One channel works like it should. The other channel has almost no gain. When I turn the gain to max and remove the 20db pad, I get just a tiny signal.
Is there something I could/should do to save a trip to Peavey?

Tubes.

Obvious try---mark all the tubes on the good side, remove the tubes on the bad side and then replace the bad side with the good side tubes. See what happens.

Thanks for the help Bill. You read my mind.

Ron, after you swap tubes, feel free to call me toll free at 1-877-732-8391 and we will be glad to assist you further if the problem is other than a tube problem.
[This message was edited by Mike Brown on 10 August 2004 at 06:28 AM.]

uhhh....duhhh

Thanks for the help Bill and Mike. Simple as it sounds, it was a bit imposing for this mechanic. I did look at the manual and determined which tubes went with which channel. Swapped the tubes. Found the problem. Working like new again.

Ain't this Forum great?

Glad you got your pre-amp going! These are one of the real "sleeper" pres in studio land, lots of engineers buy every one they can find. I love mine, wish I had another!

Mark,
Yes, I love these things. I have picked up three over the last coupla years. Lurking and sniping on eBay. Found one at a studio closeout sale nearby.
Brad Sarno turned me on to them. Great for vocals, bass, electric piano, steel guitar. Heck, you know what I'm talking about.
