Webb, Reverb hum like Mosquito

My Webb 614 is fairly new('97 or so). And time to time, I admit I've been having a problem with reverb stereo phone jack( which plugs in to chasis from pan). I guess the contacts get dirty or something, but when I turn the reverb up to even 3, there's a considerable amount of hum ( like, mmmmmmm, type sound) comes out. When I wiggled and pluging in and out a few times of that stereo phone jack under the chasis, hum goes away. And I've been doing this remedy for a few years.

Today, I noticed I hear more like Mosquito type high frequency oscillation noise comes out when I turn the reverb even up to 2. when I turn the knob up further, more noise comes up. So something's up with this. Not as much as "mmmmm" sound like I used to get, but it's still noisey enough that you'll hear it( starts at even 1 1/2!!)

Of course I tested out without plugging any guitar in. And once I turned off the reverb knob to 0, it's quiet as a snowed-in log cabin!

Anyone experiencing similar symptom? What do I do about it? Ship it to Jimmy???<H>

Well, it sure sounds like something "physical"
as opposed to an electronic problem. So, you'd
have to figure the culprit is the cable between
the reverb pan & the chassis, or the input
socket where it plugs into the chassis, or
a bad solder joint where the socket goes into
the circuit main board. Must be one of the 3
I would think.

I dont think you can send it back to Mr. Webb as he passed away recently perhaps another option would be to send it to your local Amplifier repair service..

You might take the reverb out of the cabinet and out of the cover so that you can see the springs....I had trouble on mine , which is a less then one year old amp, and found that one of the small wires that is soldered to the spring circuit was broken loose. I don't recall what kind of problem I had but you need to check this out.....Otherwise check for bad solder joints on your plugs that may not be supply a good conection until you move it around and then over time it oxidizes and becomes poor again.....

I had the same problem with my reverb tank. It arrived that way brand new! I think it was a quality control problem from accutronics. I opened up the reverb tank and one of the wires was broken loose. A quick drop solder and now she is great!

Hiro, do you think it could be the outlet it is plugged in? I know sometimes my amps are sensitive to certain lights and such...

Oh, no. Jimmy's gone!? Oh, man, I could've spent more time with him because I loved him...With his attitude and everything...I miss that St. Louis time and Christina was doing very fine care for Jimmy.

Now this becomes my mission to keep running my Webb at its optimum! Thanks folks. I'll open up pan, and I'll open up the chasis again to see if I missed anything you guys are pointing out for me.
