Peterson VS-II Virtual Strobe Tuner - Wow!

I'm not trying to start a "tuning" debate, but I am one of those players that subscribe to the tempered tuning philosophy. I tried a Peterson VS-II with the E9th & C6th presets at the NAMM convention Sunday, and loved it so much I bought it on the spot.

I took it out for it's first show last night, and I think it is the most in tune show I have ever done (where I couldn't hear to tune by ear). There are a couple of adjustments I want to make to the presets, but I love the unit. This is the most excited I have been over a piece of gear in a long time.

If you want to temper-tune, do yourself a favor and try out one of the new Peterson tuners.

Now, if my left hand would just hit the right fret...

I’ll give you a big “AMEN” on your above post David. No matter how you choose to tune, the VS-II is what every PSG player should have. If you choose to use the presets, they are readily available. Like Randy Beavers, I found the presets to be a little on the “sharp” side. Not to worry, when you first turn on the VS-II, It allows you to scroll down minus 5 or 6 cents or what ever factor you come up with. Then hit the bottom menu button three times until the “TMPR: EQU feather comes up. Then, rotate the value knob until “TMPR: SE9 comes up. Then tune to the adjusted presets. What I’m trying to say is the VS-II will assist you in tuning anyway you see fit or whatever suits your ear. It also has the preset feature that allows you to tune your guitar and then store the settings in the presets. How do I personally tune? I try to tune as close to Buddy Emmons as my guitar will allow.

Just got a dirt road special on one ( or at least it was well below what I have seen). I have been using a TU-12 for a long time and later using the tuner in my TransTubeFex, both with the Newman numbers. They worked great with those tuners but with this I don't have to memorize the numbers. Just turn it on and tune. I just got it and have not had a chance to determine how to change the presets as I would like to tweak a couple, but the ones there are generally good enough for a country boy. Since I am electronicly challanged, I don't like screwing around with things, so the simplier the better, and the presets seem to work for me. To me one of the best tuners I have seen.

Then you won't need the Petersen "presets". Simply use the Petersen to tune everything straight up 440 and flatten your "thirds" just a tad. And you have it. Again, JUST a tad. Only enough so temperature changes never allow them to go above 440.

Hey--Me, too! A great guy living near Boston sold me V-SAM at a considerable saving and tuning time has been cut by 3/4ths. That new Mullen RP holds a tuning exceptionally well, but when it does need it, there is the Peterson V-SAM!
