Popping from Tuner in rack

Post by Paddy Long »

I have a Korg DTR1000 in my rack and when I activate the 'mute' switch it pumps a very loud pop through the amp and speakers. I have the tuner patched through the plugs in the back of it as per the manual - has anybody else experience this problem? Or does anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

Paddy, I use a Korg rack mount tuner. I do not have it in line when I play. At the advise of Korg users, I mounted a switch in my rack which switches my guitar between tuner and effects input. I made the switchbox by mounting a mini dpdt switch and (2) 1/4" jacks in a metal receptacle box which shields the wiring.
I also used one side of the DPDT switch to short the effects input when it switches to tuner. NO POPS and the tuner does not affect the sound of my guitar. ........ JD

If you have a volume pedal with 2 outputs you can run a cord from the 2nd output to the input of the tuner.....when tuning you'll have to step on the volume pedal a little to get some sound for the tuner to work with ....but you won't have any pops or interference.

Thanks guys, yes I thought about an isolating switch so I might have to try that approach.

You don't have to get even that complicated, it you're no more equipment poor than most of us.

I simply use the "effects send" of whatever rack mounted effects box I'm using at the time to the input of the Korg DTR1 in my rack. I don't use the effects send or receive for anything else, so's it works fine.
Presently I have PodPro Xt in there, and I use the "unprocessed" guitar out jack to feed the tuner; on the Behringer V Amp I had, i used the effects loop send; same with the Alesis QVerb I used for years.

Thanks Chick that works a treat, I'm surprised I didn't think of it earlier -
