Delay recommendations?
Opinions about the best delay/verb unit for steel without breaking the bank? My most important thought is not giving up the least amount of tone possible. Mr Dixon, where are you?

Roger is right.
The RV3 is a proven piece of equipment and inexpensive, should be able to get one for less than $100 easily. I don't understand why amp manufacturers haven't cut a deal with Boss and incorperated the RV3 in amps, especially Steel Amps. Would be a lot better than Spring reverbs.

Dale, I'm not Carl Dixon either, but I use a Dan Electro brand Danecho for about a $100-$125. Very adustable, from a softer delay to a harsh delay, from a simple "slap" to alomost infinity. I used a Boss DD2 and DD3 but I find this is more versitle. My opinion only. If your local music store carries them try one out. Beware of the cheapie Dan echo. Get the bigger unit if you decide to go the DanEcho route, much better unit.

I recently ran a similar thread here. After hearing comments, I puchased a new Lexicon MPX 110. It is the best effects unit I have owned. One thing the specs can't convey to you is: how much noise will I hear when I connect this thing to my equipment?
The MPX 110 is virtually noise free when connected to the input of my NV400. It was easy for me to learn how to use (rotary switches). The clincher is: it sells for $199.95........... JD

Thks for all the input. Sounds like I should try all of them, if ever possible. I did notice a thread where Carl recommended a DD5 & B.E. liked the DD3? for the delay but not the reverb. I've had the MPX 100 and didn't want a rack unit this time. I think I'll take a trip to the music store and try a few things out first, then probably will wind up buying from the Forum (1st choice) or Ebay if necessary. Thks again.

For size and cost, my first choice is the Rocktron short timer. Mono operation only! $60 new including shipping thru samedaymusic.com. I currently use this one.
Stereo if you are running 2 amps, I have used both the Boss dd-3 and dd-5 with good results, but more expense. I prefer the sound of the Rocktron! Just my 2 cents worth.

John Floyd raised an interesting question. Most steel players use some degree of delay with their amp, why hasn't any manufacturer seen fit to incorporate a quality delay unit into the amp itself? The players who did not want this feature could dial it out or opt for a different amp entirely. The only builder who even addressed this subject was Peavey with the Nashville 2000, and that was by adding an entire effects unit.
