Are my pickups really BL705s??

Amplifiers, effects, pickups, electronic components, wiring, etc.

Are my pickups really BL705s??

Post by Burton Lee »

I am selling a pair of BL705s, I think. A potential buyer thinks they are fraudulent. How can I tell?

They are black, not chrome. They came on my MCI Waco, and I believe they're original but not 100% sure. They measure 25k ohms.

Should there be some kind of BL marking?

I've been told the same. There is at least one thread about this in electronics. You'll have to do a search. This took place maybe 2 years ago.

Thanks, Bobby, but it doesn't seem like we have a consensus on the issue.

Does the black band mean it's fake, or did BL make them with black bands?

I'd hate to sell them as a BL705 and have them turn out fake. They have a single wire coming from them with the Emmons mounting plate and no patent pending sticker.

:-(

Thanks, John. That clears it up.

I'm going to retire these faux-805s. They work fine, but I find the idea of a fraudulent pickup to be distasteful, so I won't sell them.

Thanks again,
