Which New Amp To Purchase

I had to put my amp in show and will be down for 2 to 3 weeks. I received a call today from the pastor and since I have played for nearly 11 years cocsistently in church they want to buy me a new amp. I tried to back away from such a gesture but he assures me that they want to help me. My question is, what amp would you guys buy and what is the cost today? I have had a Nashville 400 but I realize the Nashville 1000 is on the market as well as the Nashville 112. Are the Webb amps still available and if so what is the prices? Please understand that most of the time I will not be playing through the PA system. I would appreciate any info you guys and gals could throw my way.

It may depend on how big the church is. The Nashville 112 would probably work fine for up to a couple hundred people. Our church runs around 600 and when all the other instruments are playing, I don't think it would cut it. But, the 112 has a balanced output that eliminates a direct box, for when you do need to go through the system. I really like the sound of my Nash 112 for steel and guitar both.

I use a Digitech 2112 Preamp/Effects unit and play direct to the system. I use wireless in-ear monitors so I can hear myself.

I will recommend as always the G.D. Walker Stereo Steel. IMHO it's as good as it gets. It sounds great at any volume and has more than enough power to run without going through the P.A.

At approx. $1700 or so it's not cheap but I believe it's reasonable for what you get, if you can swing it.

The Walker Stereo Steel is a great amp with quality "Hand made" Construction. If you can't get a great tone out of this rig, you might as well give up. GD Walker builds a Top notch product. Its also Stereo and has a great amount of depth and clarity when used with a quality stereo effects processor. If you are working on a budget, you cannot go wrong with the Peavey amps. For a small church and a praise band that is not too loud, a Nashville 112 would do the job nicely and they don't cost a lot... Used Nashville 400 amps can be bought for around $350 to $400. The New Nashville 1000 is a 300 watt amps and has all the power you will ever need for any large church. They weigh a bit less than the Nashville 400 and the sound is clean and clear... I have never played through a Webb, but they cost more than the Peavey amps. I have used Peavey amps for 30 years with no problems and they work good and sound good. I Would Say The Nashville 1000 It Will Take care Of Any Size Church building. SONNY.

Thanks for the info. We found a Nashville 1000 from a guy who had to sell it. We were able to get it for $489. I will sit down tonight and give it a whirl. I have heard nothing but good about the Nashville 1000 so I expect it to sound great. I just did not feel comfortable them buying me an amp so the church will buy it and it will belong to the church for me to use. If I ever leave it stays there and I will still have my Nashville 400.

WEBB- SINCE THE PASSING OF MR. WEBB, I HAVEN'T HAD CONTACT WITH THEM BUT AN EVANS AMP CAN BE PURCHASED FOR LESS THAN A WEBB AND OF COURSE THE PEAVEYS ARE WELL MADE AND THEY DO STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCTS AS DOES EVANS.

Paul, you didn't mention the size of your church---neither the sanctuary, nor the congregation. You also didn't mention the amount of money the church could, or would, spend on the amp. So, IMO, get the Peavey, and let the church use the money they would have spent on the Walker rig, or Evans, or ANY other, more expensive gear, on something else.

Thanks for the help guys. The church did buy the Peavey Nashville 1000. We found a used one at a good price. I did not feel comfortable on them buying me a new amp and spending a sizeable amount of money. The amp will belong to the church, not me. We are going to build a new sanctuary that will be bigger and I will go through the PA system when that is accomplished. Right now the church is small and this 1000 amp packs a lot of power. I may should have went with the Nashville 112. I guess I could always buy one myself. Moderator you can close this thread if you wish.
