How do I xfer settings to Profex from cache card

Post by Wiz Feinberg »

I just bought a Profex II which has both banks filled with lead guitar settings, but no steel settings. I am borrowing a Peavey RAM/Cache card with the Newman settings on it, and have it write protected. How do I delete the existing user settings, which occupy both A and B banks, and install the settings that are on the RAM card? Into which bank do I load the Newman settings on the RAM card?

I know how to create or edit my own presets, but have never had to clear out an entire unit and reprogram it from a card.

I read here that I should hold down the Play and Global buttons when powering on, to reset to factory defaults. I have done that twice, and all banks are still filled with the customized lead guitar settings that were on it when it arrived.

Mike;
You didn't leave a phone number, or webpage to go to.

Guys, to load the presets into the unit, insert the card, use the global button until you get to the "cart" menu, tab over to "load", press the execute button. The settings on the card will transfer to bank A. The settings in bank B are factory and unable to be deleted. By re-initializing the unit when holding the play and global buttons, you transferred bank B settings to bank A. They are duplicate settings. These will be over ridden once you install the card. Be sure to not re-initialize the unit after the card is loaded into the unit because you will lose the steel guitar settings.

Thanx David, that helps a lot! It also will save me a lot of borrowing the card over and over to reinstall the Bank A presets.

Does anybody have a blank spare card for sale?

Ken's instructions are the easiest to follow, not to sell Peavey short, they build great stuff, but their tech writing is sometimes a little too technical for the layman.

your welcome Wiz! as for a card, you can use a roland 128, 256, or 512 "Ram" card. all you have to do is intialize the card to be read on the unit, then you can save the settings to the card. these cards are available on ebay usually for $50 or so. samedaymusic.com has the 512 new for $75 including shipping. you can also use a voice crystal ram card with at least 32k. however, I have never used a voice crystal card. hope this helps.

Do these Roland cards have the same single metallic contact strip as the Peavey cards, or do they have individual contact fingers, like a pc card? Are they truly compatible? I am looking at a M-256E 32kb card.

The Roland cards have the contacts not the single strip like the Peavey cards. Yes they are compatable with the Peavey-fex units. I have used these cards on profex and tubefex units and they work fine.
