Can you reccomend the best 15"speaker?

Amplifiers, effects, pickups, electronic components, wiring, etc.

Everybody's got their favorite, I guess.
I like the old EVM 15L's. But the JBL D130
(if you can find one) is great. Peavey
Black Widow's are fine, if you like their tone.
Then there's various Eminence models as well
as Celestion. Does that narrow things down?

What Jay said. I love the EVM 15L's and the JBL D 130F's.

Do you have any Eminance models that you would reccomend? I thought the Peavey Black Widow is primarily a bass speaker. Is that the case with the JBL D130. I guess that would be great if I could use a bass speaker because it would allow me to use the cab for my Taylor acoustic bass as well as my steel.

I think the Peavey Black Widows sound better than any of the JBLs.

The 15" Peavey speaker made for steel guitar is the 1501. It is a 4 ohm speaker and they use a different type paper for the cone.

For steel guitar, I prefer the Peavy Black Widow.

With the help of Mike Brown I just built two cabinets to the Peavey spec and used the BW 1501-4 shallow basket 4 ohm Black Widows. Peavey's item number is #0027010. They don't cost an arm and leg plus they are field repairable. To my ear they sound great too.

Good Luck

I'd go for Peavey BW 1501-4.

The Peavey Black Widow model 1501-4 "sb"(shallow basket) speaker was designed specifically for steel guitar reproduction. The U.S. MSRP for this model is $165.99 and can be purchased through your local authorized Peavey distributor. Here is a link to locate a dealer from the Peavey website;

I went to Seattle yesterday and the Peavey dealer sold me a 1508 8HE Black Widow. He said that it was the same speaker that is in the Nashville 1000 only with a less sterile sound. I did not get to read all of your replies until I returned home last night but it looks like I bought the wrong speaker. Has anyone tried the one that I purchased or know the story behind it? I really appreciate all your help.
Thanks!!!!
