Tubefex, Lexicon, Profex??????

I am looking at all of these animals. Don't have a lot of moolah to spend since I have 3 daughters, 2 in the teenage years. What are the main differences with all of these units? Thanks. Kirk

The Profex preceeded the Tubefex and are both made by Peavey. The Profex II takes a card that can be programmed with settings. When I got my Profex II, I sent the blank card to Jeff Newmann and he sent me a card with the settings on it along with a video. As the name implies, the Tubefex is a tube effects unit. Peavey also made a unit called the Transtube which was solid state but is supposed to have some of the tube characteristics. I believe all of these units have been discontinued by Peavey.

Lexicon is another effects unit and comes in several different models. On the low end is the old 100 model which has been updated to the 110. They made the 200 model for a while which I have and like. They keep going up from there and can run you $500-600 for the high end stuff. Lexicon has a reputation for the best reverbs.

A very important point. The Tubefex and Profex are preamps with effects. The Lexicon is not a preamp. If you don't need a preamp and are just using the effects it makes no difference.
