Boss RV-3 Help

Post by Bill Atwood »

I just picked up an RV-3 from eBay and didn't get the sticker or the owner's manual. Can anyone give me the mode descriptions?
Thanx

Hi, Bill, the knobs function differently according to which mode you're using:
CONTROLS:
(left to right):
1.FX balance (wet or dry)
2.Tone (timbre of reverb)/Feedback (repetitions of delay)
3.Reverberation time (reverb) / Delay time(delay or delay/reverb)
4.Mode selector:
It has 11 modes.
1-3 are Delays with different delay time ranges.
4: Delay with small room reverb.
5: Delay with larger room reverb.
6: Delay with Hall reverb.
7: Delay with Plate Reverb. Delay times are selected between 32ms and 1s and Reverb time is fixed (in modes 4-7).
8: Room reverb.
9: Larger room reverb.
10:Hall reverb.
11:Plate reverb.
There have been many posts from the "pros" here on their preferred settings, but a consensus seems to be Mode 7 (Delay and plate verb) with Feedback (knob 2) around 10-11 o'clock, Delay time (knob 3) around 12-1pm
On the first knob, effects balance, it really reflects where in your chain you have the RV-3, if before your volume pedal, you will need it up higher, if after your pedal (whcih I recommend, so that if you kill your guitar volume you won't unnaturally also kill the delay), you might need it set quite low, for me it's barely on at around 7-8 o'clock. I often find that when I have it set "right" for a ballad sound on mode 7, just switching to mode 6 gives me a nice sound for up-tempo stuff. I love this box. Hope this helps.
