Boss SE 50

Post by Kevin Chriss »

Has anyone been able to get a Dobro sound from a steel guitar and a Boss SE 50?

I forgot, add high's and take away the low's on the EQ section.

Thanks Larry, I'll try it. The SE 50 is coming UPS. I'll get it Friday.

Well, I got my Boss SE 50 yesterday off of Ebay for $86.00 including shipping. Using Larry's advice, I already have a good dobro sound (IMHO). When I get it fine tuned I'll post my settings. For normal playing I use a DD3 and the reverb on my Session 400. This setup produces the tone I love. In trying to simplify this setup by using the SE 50 exclusively, I am trying to dial in a delay that sounds like my DD3. So far, I haven't been able to find it. The SE 50 seems to muddy up the highs. My DD3 is crystal clear. I'll just have to use both effects units.
As an added note, I play an Excel keyless that I dearly adore. If anyone has questions about my Excel, please feel free to contact me.

Turn on the EQ, pan to the right drop the Lows to -3, turn up the High's to +3 or less and turn the volume of the EQ up to 10. Turn your amp down.

The delay, run 250 to 300 ms at 20% with no slapback and 20% volume.

The reverb, use Plate at 3.5-4.0 at 20% for fast songs and 70% or higher for slow. Turn off your amp reverb, don't ever use it again. Image Image

If you want steel drums, organ, envelope following, flange, etc let me know. I use an SE70 but some settings will be the same.
