? for SVT 2/90/2 rackheads

Ive gone thru the archives on this thing and Im sold. I have a couple of combo open backs amps and want to put together a stereo/mono rack rig with closed back cabs (Marrs). I play in situations that call for increased lower end fuller sound. I know the SVT 2/90/2 can handle anything, but is it too much to handle for smaller venues. Can you easily dial in your sweet spot regardless of volume needs ? Until I can find and afford an SVT, Ive got a Mosvalve 80 per channel amp and a profex 2. Marrs cabs are on order. This should get me in the right direction but I expect the SVT to be the endgame for what Im looking for in sound plus could handle any power needs anywhere. Thanks

I think you mean VHT, right ?
The 2/90/2 can be used for small gigs in 2 ways. It has a low power mode switch that brings down your headroom or what I mostly did was just use one side of the power amp. I have gone through tons of amps and the 2/90/2 was by far the best sounding rig ever.

- through these folks and got a great price and they even did me a deal on shipping to Canada.

They provided amazing customer service (I think the guys I dealt with were Mike and/or Steve, emails are on another computer so can't check easily right now).

I thought the 2/50/2 used EL34's.

And Steven,
One word of advice on buying a 2/90/2. Make sure you buy it from somebody that has it in stock. If it needs to be ordered you might be waiting for a very long time. Believe me, if the retailer says they don't have one but can get one right away move on to the next retailer. VHT makes the best power amp in the world by far but they do not have there shirt together with all the other stuff. I had an endorsement deal with them and they could not get me an amp for well over 9 months.

On Bob's recommendation, (and after having admired the lush tone he had) I built a rack with the power section being a VHT 2/90/2. It has incredible headroom and sounds great at lower volumes too. Built like a tank, and sounds great sparkling clean or with a distorted tone. I recommend VHT's gear very highly.

Hey Greg,

I hope you are enjoying that black Fessenden, and that the phone company opted not to strike...

But to answer your question, I have two different rack set ups. I use a very old-looking Alembic two channel tube preamp (brass faceplate, giant red knobs) that I am told uses a circuit akin to a blonde or early blackface Dual Showman. It sounds fantastic through the VHT into a stereo Diezel cabinet I had built last year. I also use a rack mountable Mesa-Boogie V-Twin on occasion, but it sounds a bit clinical compared to the Alembic pre. If you ever see one one of these things, check it out, very cool.
