Power Supply for Multiple Boss Pedals?
What's the solution to powering 3 or 4 Boss effects pedals? As good as their effects pedals are, they really have a big appetite for 9v batteries.
Looks like Boss only offers 1 wall wart power supply per pedal, or having to get an NS-2 or TU-2 so you can connect their parallel cord rig from one of them.
Does somebody else make a single wall wart with multiple 9v power cords that will work with the Boss stuff?

I believe the BOSS numbers are PSA-120 and the PSM-5. These will connect up to (5) pedals. I made one and just soldered (4) ends in line, to accomodate the power input jacks. Pick up a good wall-wart from a Radio Shack type store and some jacks. A 9V 300-500 mAh would run a few pedals just fine. Make sure the polarity is correct. I would make certain it's a quality adapter as some of the cheaper ones are really prone to HUM!
[This message was edited by Kevin Mincke on 15 February 2004 at 08:48 PM.]

Boss sells a jumper cable that will take your single PSA-120 or whatever 9v supply you're using, and adds like 6 more power plugs on a daisy-chain. You can usually run a few pedals on one supply with no problem. It's the digital pedals that guzzle power, like reverb and delay and chorus stuff. The cable is less than $20.

Several years ago I bought a Radio Shack project book that had the schematics for a variable power AC to DC power supply project. The cost for parts for the project at that time was $15. The only changes I made to the unit was adding more filter capacitors. I still use it and it's ultimate quiet.

In addition to the above info, here is something--

Also, here is something I just came across. It may or may not be of interest but it directly addresses a situation I recently encountered regarding an older Boss unit (20 y.o. OD-2) that operated considerably sub-par with an adapter vs. a battery.

I use a product called the "One-Spot" by Visual Sound. Very similar to the Godlyke product -- a wall-wart type power supply. Make sure to get the daisy chain connector for driving multiple pedals. Cheap, works great for most stomp boxes, and they even make an adaptor for the Line 6 stuff. Musicians Friend has it; probably the other major catalog retailers sell it, too.

I really like the Voodoo Labs supply. Ultra clean and beefy. Mine will power several 9 volt boxes, plus two power outs for the Line 6 boxes (12v AC), plus two "sag" voltage out for underpowering certain devices that like that (a Tube Screamer sounds incredile at about 7.5v instead of 9V). It also uses a removeable, standard IEC power cable--no wall warts. Great box...

Getting a TU-2 was the answer for me. Not only do you get a mighty fine tuner but you also get to eliminate batteries in your other Boss pedals (Ibanez works too).
If you can find a Boss BCB-6 it has a power supply and all the cords you need and space for a TU-12 type tuner. The good thing about the power supply is that it works as a bypass switch for all the effects so you can go straight through to the amp with one stomp.
