Ripping off Europeans

Post by Anders Brundell »

I've just gotten my new Nashville 1000, bought in USA for $ 700.
Shipping and handling USA-Sweden via BAX is $ 135.
Customs fee, handling costs at the airport Stockholm/Arlanda, some other taxes, truck Stockholm - Falun and 25% VAT (highest in the world!) upon all that will increase the cost some $ 445.
Transformer 220 – 110 V $ 200.
Total cost slightly below $ 1.500, totally whithout any action from Peavey.

Anders in Falun, Sweden.

I bought an Eventide Orville here, $5k USD, if I wanted one in Berlin, Eventide told us they would sell us one for 14k Euros, about $17000.
[This message was edited by chas smith on 11 February 2004 at 08:53 PM.]

I can only assume that you are posting this with tongue in cheek. Image Why is it Peavey's fault that your commi/socialist countries double the cost of items with taxes? Image Maybe, if your country didn't discourage business and inventivenism with outragous tax systems, Sweden would produce a decent amp. Or, maybe you believe that Peavey should just ship their factory to India or Indonesia and eliminate the nasty American Capitalist Corporation.
Of course, if you really feel that Peavey should some how compensate people like you, you can can kiss Mike Brown's and my Red, White, and Blue ASS!! Image

Patrick,
you're fighting alone; there's noone else in the ring with you.
If you could understand what I wrote you'll find that I say Peavey has no guilt whatsoever for the remarkably high total cost in the end. In my first post I explain very clearly that Peavey has done absolutely nothing to cause this, so please don't accuse and attack me for your own misunderstandings.
Actually both Peavey, yourself and I are totally innocent of the extreme high tax policy over here, 'cause none of us has ever voted for anything commi/socialistic - I just want you to know that I'm an anti-socialist too, so your choice of target is extremely wrong.
Furthermore the language you use in the end of your post violates Forum rules, and you ought to know better than to use such language, even if you're mad when you write it.
So please sober up, read again, think a while and at least try to understand what I write, and stop kickin' in open doors and fight enemies that doesn't even exist. Maybe you can ask someone to help you.

Anders, Ditto.
It's not fun or productive to be insulted when your not being offensive.
I hope Joey closes thread #2, for political drift,
as opposed to reasoned analysis of fiscal facts that was started.
Good morning Joey : teach you to go to sleep! Image
But it's Anders thread and he gave 2 reasoned and well thought out arguments.

And Chas also made a very good point.
It is sometimes ridiculous the cost of tools here.

I do think the 110v-220v converter was over priced, but maybe not, the N1000 does draw a lot of current.
Much better if it was 220v converted with a new transformer, but I don't know Finnish prices that well.
Not surprising with the prevailing weather it is quite expensive in general over there.

Anders, congratulations on your
new amp - it is simply the best, even if
it is expensive..

If you buy a Nashville 1000 in the U.S.
Ask the seller, politely, to take the amp
apart in three parts and ship each part
separately, marked as "used electronics"
which would be true.
This makes eager customs officers loose their
interest somewhat. Image
Just a friendly advice.
(I hope there are no Europaean customs officers lurking on this Forum) Image

Hej Anders,
BTW. 25% is not the highest VAT in the world.
Down here south of you we pay an additional
3% extra Tax, so the total comes to 28%!
So "mine" is bigger than "yours". Image
Sad but true.
[This message was edited by Uwe Haegg on 12 February 2004 at 02:11 AM.]

I think that $1500 for a Nashville 1000 are not too expensive compared to what other brands are selling for in stores over here.

The price of a new Fender Twin Reverb are about $2400 in Norway.

Talking about taxes.... Sweden are a car producing country and has little import taxes on cars. Denmark and Norway do not produce cars and have a crazy high import tax.

Here`s and example.
I got a 1995 Ford E-350 customline van this is the one that takes 6 person and have some nice carpet around in the cargo area.
The price for a new 2004 model are $110000 over here.... Image

How much will this one be in the USA?

The $1500 NV 1000 suddently sound not so very bad...

Patrick that was uncalled for and i too consider that you are violatin' forum rules ! Image
as was mentioned in the other thread, Peavey is NOT to be blamed for the final prices here in Europa.
Anders, you should contact Ted Nesbitt about the 220v conversion.
when i get a minute i'll send you the info i have on this Anders.
i'm sure you could get it a bit cheaper.
i use an external transformer 220v to 110v that i found used for 20€. it works fine.
Uwe's suggestion sounds like an good idea.
i did the same w: a telecaster i had sent over.
neck in one package, and body in another.
my Nash 1000 cost me 700 $ + 240 $ shipping
No Customs- i was lucky - total 940 $

Steel what?
